THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vizhinjam police arrested a man on charges of stabbing his neighbour to death on Saturday. The arrested person was identified as Aji of Venganoor. Shiji, an autorickshaw driver and a resident of Mavila, is the deceased.
The incident happened on Thursday. Shiji was coming home with a relative in his twowheeler when Aji blocked his way using bricks. This led to a verbal altercation and Aji stabbed Shiji in the neck. Shiji, who sustained deep stab wounds, was rushed to nearby primary health centre and later taken to the medical college hospital. He however succumbed to wounds due to severe blood loss. The police said Aji had objected to Shiji parking his autorickshaw near his house and he would abuse him attributing to his caste.
Shiji had given a police complaint due to the casteist abuse. This provoked Aji which led to the assault and murder, the police said. Aji was arrested from the site of incident. Vizhinjam SHO Ramesh, SIs Rajesh, Balakrishnan Achari, Suresh Kumar, Mohan Kumar, Vishnu and Baiju and civil police officers Shine Raj, Aji and Sanoj were part of the team who arrested Aji. The police have registered cases under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and further probe will be done by a team led by Fort AC Anil Das.
