Two child marriages foiled in Thane, Palghar

Thane, Apr 4 (UNI) Acting on tip-offs, Shahapur tehsildar Nilima Suryavanshi foiled two child marriages in Thane and neighbouring Palghar districts, the revenue officials said.
In the first case, a 17-year-old girl, studying in Gotheghar Ashram School and resident of Jawhar, was to be married on Sunday at Tilonda of Wada.
The headmaster of the ashram school was alerted and with the help of the local Wada SDO, this marriage was stopped, said Ms Suryavanshi.
In another case, a teenager from Aghai Garelpada, studying in class IX at the Gandulwad Ashram school, was to be married off at Garelpada recently.
All the preparations for the marriage had been completed but at the eleventh hour, the venue was shifted to Chendavane of Wada taluka.
The Shahapur revenue officials got the lead and reached the venue at the nick of the moment and foiled it.
The matter is being examined by the local police, she added.
