makes no sense..we have rules for how many hours a trucker can drive why shouldnt it be the same for doctors that are making life/death decisions

I'm pretty sure its only in rare/extraordinary conditions they work longer then 12 or 13 hours.
Probably depends on the situation. I'm a cop and its in our policy we can't work longer then 16h per day. Or 112h per week.
But I've logged a lot of 18-20 hour days. Especially around Mardi Gras or when there are large festivals. Longest day ever was 22 hours.
Its fukking brutal when you have to pop imodiums to block you up because you don't even have time to poo.
