Bijapur Maoist attack due to operational, intelligence failure: ex-BSF chief

New Delhi: Former head of the Border Security Force (BSF), Prakash Singh, said on Sunday that Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur Maoist attack was due to an operational and intelligence failure.

Singh told ANI: ‘I met some police officers in Chhattisgarh a few days ago, and when I spoke to them, we saw a lack of willpower in Chhattisgarh officers to fight Maoists and the lack of coordination between officers. This type of incident is the result of these factors. “This operation was a failure and no moment of pride for the police in Chattisgargarh,” he added.

Prakash Singh also questioned the use of funds allocated from the center to fight the Maoists and said it was also important to know whether the money was being used for the purpose or not. It needs to be investigated, he added. Singh said there were many questions raised about the incident.

A meeting broke out between security forces and Maoists along the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh on Saturday after a party of Javanese was ambushed by the Maoists near the town of Jonnaguda around 12:00. At least 22 security personnel lost their lives in the encounter.
