Encounter breaks out between terrorists, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district

The police said that as the input four to five terrorists are inside the cordon area, however, the actual number can be said once operation concludes.

A massive anti-terror operation was launched by security forces in the forests of Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (April 3).

The gunfight erupted after a joint team of the police and the Army cordoned the forested Chor Ki Gali area and launced a search operation based on specific information on the presence of terrorists.

A top police official confirmed the operation and said, “Contact established between terrorists and security in Chor Ki Gali forest belt in Shopian district of South Kashmir."

The joint operation is carried on a specific input by a team of Police, Army  and CRPF. A Police official said, “As the searching party launched a cordon and search operation the hiding terrorists fired on searching party and the fire was retaliated resulting a encounter."

Sources in the police said that as the input four to five terrorists are inside the cordon area, however, the actual number can be said once the operation concludes. 

"A joint operation was launched today morning based on Jammu and Kashmir Police inputs at Chor Ki Gali in Sedhau forest area of Shopian. Area cordoned off and contact established. Firefight ensued. Joint operation in progress," the Army said.
