THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vizhinjam police arrested a man on charges of stabbing his neighbour to death on Saturday. The arrested person was identified as Aji, a resident of Venganoor. Shiji, an auto driver and a resident of Mavila was the deceased.
The incident happened on Thursday. Shiji was coming home with a relative in his two-wheeler. Aji blocked his way using bricks. This led to a verbal altercation. Aji then stabbed in the neck of Shiji during the scuffle. Shiji sustained deep stab wounds was rushed to nearby primary health centre and later taken to Medical college hospital. He however succumbed to wounds due to severe blood loss.
The police said that Aji had objected to Shiji parking his autorickshaw near his house and he would abuse him attributing to his caste. Shiji had given a police complaint due to casteist abuse. This provoked Aji which led to the assault and murder, the police said. Aji was arrested from the site of incident. Vizhinjam SHO Ramesh, SIs Rajesh, Balakrishnan Achari, Suresh Kumar, Mohan Kumar , Vishnu, Baiju, civil police officers Shine Raj, Aji and Sanoj were part of the team who arrested Aji. The police have registered cases under SC/ST atrocities prevention act and further probe will be done by a team led by Fort AC Anil Das.
