Port Blair, April 03 (UNI) In view of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Lt Governor, A&N Islands has directed Union Territory Administration to take immediate steps to curb the rise in Corona virus cases in the Islands.
The Lt Governor, A & N Islands, Admiral (Retd) D K Joshi has directed the Administration to make COVID testing mandatory for all the incoming passengers on arrival at Airport.
He expressed his concern over the reportedly fake COVID-19 test reports from Mainland Labs and asked the Administration to check the status and take stringent possible action.
The Lt Governor also directed the Administration to implement five fold strategy for effective containment and management of the COVID-19 in A&N Islands.
The strategy includes exponential increase in testing; effective isolation and contact tracing of the infected individuals; reinvigoration of health resources; ensuring COVID appropriate behavior and targeted approach to vaccination.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor has also appealed to the citizens of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to follow COVID appropriate behaviors viz. wearing of face mask, maintaining social distancing, frequent hand washing etc and directed the Administration to take penal action against violators.
At present, there are 41 active COVID-19 cases in Andaman and till now total of 5084 cases of COVID-19 have been reported from Andaman, out of which 4981 people have recovered. 62 deaths have been reported so far from Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to COVID-19.
