UP: Former gram pradhan shot dead in Gorakhpur village

LUCKNOW: Unidentified bike-borne miscreants shot dead former gram pradhan of Naryanpur village in Gorakhpur district on late Friday night. The deceased was identified as Brijesh Singh, 51.
Police said that Brijesh was expected to file his nomination for the upcoming panchayat polls on Saturday. The incident took place under Gulharia Bazaar police station area of Gorakhpur.
SSP Gorakhpur, Dinesh Kumar P told TOI that the victim was returning on a bike after campaigning when the attack happened.
"As per the eyewitnesses, three assailants on a bike intercepted Brijesh and shot him in the chest and head. Thereafter, fled from the spot. Hearing gunshots villagers rushed to the spot and took the victim to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. The villagers later informed the police," said Dinesh Kumar P.
The SSP further added that some empty shells of .315 country-made pistol were recovered from the spot.
"We are conducting probe on all the angles which could have led to the murder," the SSP said.
