Madikeri, Apr 3 (UNI) In a macabre incident, eight people were burnt to death in two separate fire incidents in Kodagu and Mandya districts in Karnataka on Saturday.
In the first incident, at Mugutakeri in Ponnampet taluk in the district the accused, identified as Vara, who is also a relative of the victims, allegedly set fire to the dwelling where the six were staying.
Superintendent of Kodagu district police Kshama Mishra said that three people, including a six-year-old child, died on the spot. Three others died at a hospital in Mysuru, where they were rushed.
The deceased have been identified as Sithe (45), Baby (40) Prathana (6), Vishwas(6), Prakash (7) and Vishwa (7).
The police have formed a team to trace the accused. Prima facie, the provocation for the act is a “family dispute.” But, more details will emerge during the investigation, police said.
The victims belonged to a nearby village and were on a visit to Kanuru.
In another incident a four year-old child and 33 year old man were burnt alive when a house caught fire at Agachanhalli in Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district on Saturday.
Police said the deceased have been identified as Tanvith(4) and Deepak(33). And another person injured has been admitted to Adichunchanagiri hospital.
The reason for the fire is not yet known, police said.
Bellur police registered a case in this connection.
