HYDERABAD: Burning of effigies of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, conduct of rallies and slogan shouting marked the protest by opposition parties, unemployed youth and student organisations over the death of Sunil Naik.
The last rites of Sunil were performed in his village on Saturday amidst police security. He had attempted to commit suicide after getting depressed over the government failure to make recruitments in government sector. He was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed on Friday.
Leaders of political parties demanded that the government immediately come out with a notification for filling up 1.91 lakh vacancies in the government sector. They termed the suicide of Sunil as government murder. AICC spokesperson Dasoju Sravan-led delegation participated in a candle light rally along with the students in Osmania University.
Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir while addressing a public meeting in Thummadam village of Nidamanoor mandal as part of the campaign for Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly by-elections alleged that wrong policies of the TRS government are pushing jobless youth into depression with some of them resorting to the extreme steps.
“Telangana state became a reality due to the sacrifices made by the youth and students. Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi granted statehood for Telangana as she wanted to stop the youth from sacrificing their lives. Sonia wanted the youth to have a good future, jobs and control over all the resources of Telangana. However, CM KCR has appointed his 40 relatives including son, daughter, son-in-law, and nephew in various posts,” he alleged.
BJP state president Bandi Sanjay came down heavily on the KCR-government stating the family members. Friends and unemployed youth wanted to take the body to Telangana Martyrs point at Gun Park. “But the police did not allow them to do so. I want to ask CM KCR whether Martyrs memorial at Gun Park is in Pakistan that the youth were not allowed to take Sunil’s mortal remains to the place. KCR will have to pay for this when BJP comes to power in 2023 elections,” he said.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka appealed to the youth not to resort to extreme steps and instead take a firm resolve to fight with this government and get their jobs. “Join the efforts of the Congress to exert pressure and compel this government to come out with notifications and fil up all the vacancies in the government sector,” Bhatti said.
