Telangana: Seven local elections likely to go to Nagarjuna Sagar by poll

Hyderabad: Elections to seven urban local bodies (ULBs) are likely to be held after Nagarjuna Sagar bypasses.

The polls for the municipal corporations Greater Warangal and Khammam, Siddipet, Jadcherla, Nakrekal, Atchampet and Kothur will be held in the second week of May, and according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The term of elected bodies Kothur term expires on 29 October 2020, Nakrekal term expires on 15 December 2020, Greater Warangal municipal corporation, Khammam municipal corporation and Atchampet municipality expire on 14 March and Siddipet’s term expires on 15 April 2021.

The complete demarcation of wards, invitation to objections and proposals, their disposal and a final notice of the total number of wards after demarcation completed by 25 March.

The department of municipal administration and urban development is expected to issue a government order notifying wards within a week or two.

This will pave the way for the Telangana Electoral Commission to issue civilian opinion polls.

The number of divisions in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been increased from 58 to 66 and in the Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) from 50 to 60. The wards in Siddipet have been increased to 43, Jadcherla 27, Achampet 20, Nakrekal 20 and Kothur 12, the said report.

The by-pole to Nagarjuna Sagar will be held on April 17 and the counting of votes will be recorded on May 2.
