Telangana HC says the state must appoint Addl state prosecutors

Hyderabad: A panel of two judges of the Telangana High Court, consisting of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Judge B Vijaysen Reddy, recorded in a suo-moto the statement of the state that the Director of Prosecutions for Telangana has been appointed. The post has been vacant for the past two years.

The state also said that vacancies for 174 additional state prosecutors had been notified and that steps were being taken to hold examinations. The court ordered the state to conduct the recruitment process in a timely manner, and instructed it to file a new affidavit setting out the steps for the appointment of the additional prosecutors. The case was adjourned until June 17.

Murder cases

The same panel ordered the government to submit a report on pending honor killings. U Sambasiva Rao filed a PIL against the state for not stopping this barbaric act and his inaction in investigating these murders for three years.

The panel instructed the government to submit new counters, submit the current status of pending cases, take steps to curb such incidents and also the manner in which the apex guidelines were implemented. The case was adjourned until August 5.

‘Illegal’ shopping center

The same panel pulled up the state because it did not take action against the stray officials who allowed the illegal construction of a shopping mall in the Adilabad district. Gottimukkala VRRG Raju disputes the actions of the municipal commissioner to allow the Munnuru Kapu Sangam to build the shopping center instead of a community hall and residence for the members of the community on the land allotted to them by the state.

The panel requested a report from the state on this. While posting the case until July 1, it ordered the state to issue notices to the Kapu Sangam to ask for their explanation and ordered the Sangam to submit a response within two weeks. It further instructed the municipal commissioner to pass orders within two weeks thereafter.
