MANGALURU: A 2015 batch IPS officer, Sonawane Rishikesh Bhagawan, took charge as the new superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada on Friday.
Sonawane, who was the SP of Yadgir district, took charge from his successor B M Laxmi Prasad, who has now been appointed as the SP of Shivamogga district.
Sonawane, who has worked as ASP of Bantwal in 2018 and Karkala in Udupi in 2017, is not new to the region. Speaking about his plans for the district, he said that people-friendly policing will be his priority. “Further plan of action will be made after familiarising with the jurisdiction. We will also carry forward good works done by my predecessors,” he added.
Sonawane was born and brought up in Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. Before joining the IPS, Sonawane, who is an electronics engineer, worked in a private firm in Bengaluru.
