Tourism businesses have showed their patience, resilience and adaptability from the time the crisis started. These businesses, which normally take in the equivalent of almost two million workers across the country, generating around $100 billion annual revenue, have been feeling the pandemic impact for more than a year now.
However, the sector is a key driver of diversification and economic development and will be a major player in terms of financial recovery. The Government of Canada through CED is renewing its support for tourism and is boosting up to the plate with new investments in all the tourism attractions and establishments in Quebec.
Today while keeping this in mind, Élisabeth Brière, Member of Parliament for Sherbrooke and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec), the Honourable Mélanie Joly, have declared $42,958 in financial support for Productions Traces et Souvenances. This non-repayable payment will allow the organization to develop a new tourism experience. The project, a theatrical visit led on foot through downtown Sherbrooke, will draw attention to the regions’ cultural and historical heritage and serve as a showcase for gourmet tourism.
Les Productions Traces et Souvenances designs, a non-profit organization established in 2004, produces and disseminates artistic works targeted at raising the awareness of the general public through theatre of the region’s rich heritage and history, particularly the Cantons-de-l’Est. In total, this organization has given over 1000 showings of its productions, which have reached 55,000 spectators, tourists from Quebec, Canada and elsewhere.
