Football: Ings, Walcott back for Saints, Hasenhuettl to take late call on Ward-Prowse

LONDON: Southampton duo Danny Ings and Theo Walcott are in contention to face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday (Apr 4) but the club will make a late call on captain James Ward-Prowse who was injured on international duty, manager Ralph Hasenhuettl said on Friday.

Ings, Saints' top scorer this season with eight league goals, missed the last three games with a muscle injury while Walcott has not featured since late January due to a tendon injury.

"These guys (Ings and Walcott) are training now with the team for more than one week. They are on a good way back, we can feel that there are more and more players coming back, so this is good news," Hasenhuettl told reporters.

"Especially the last two weeks we had a very good time with the guys that have stayed here, a few good sessions, and most of them did a good job. I was happy with the attitude and the workload."

However, Ward-Prowse did not train after picking up a calf injury which prevented him from playing in England's 2-1 victory over Poland in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier.

"Prowsey had a little bit of problems with his calf, so he missed the third (England) game and he's still not training," Hasenhuettl added.

"Also today we rest him, but hopefully tomorrow he is so far so good and he can train with the team and be an option for the weekend."

Both Southampton and Burnley have 33 points from 29 games with an identical goal difference, but 14th-placed Saints are above Sunday's visitors in the standings having scored more goals this season.
