Just like that, General Tuna has mastered the addition of fractions.
It took me a couple of days find out what was going on with fractions that made it so difficult for me and many people to learn.
I found the bottle neck - many don't know how to teach it properly.
If I were to teach fractions, no one would fail. And they would pass with flying colors. For I alone, have figured out the secret formula. It's just like how a ran statistical analysis in a sport and found the winning formula.

I've found, most of the time, not knowing how to teach something is the result of having never sucked at it.
Way back when I was learning to drive a manual car I kept being "taught" by people who would just say "clutch in, gas, clutch out". They forgot all the little nuances because to them it was just "clutch in, gas, clutch out". I eventually taught myself how to manage the throttle and learn to feel for the clutch engagement point - now everyone I teach learns in about 15-20 minutes.“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful.”

You add the whole numbers first and then add the fractions after doing the addition formula it.
But the whole point of all of this, was to find out exactly why fractions was so difficult to learn.
Traditionally, teaching fractions starts out as concepts, which should actually be the very last step to teaching it. It is no wonder why many struggle with fractions. We're not equals until you respect the words of God.
