Hyderabad: Sometimes it takes little to make an impact, and that’s exactly how the NEMA Foundation, an NGO in the city, started helping and assisting people.
‘I worked in the healthcare sector and got a lot of medical requests from underprivileged people and connected them to different NGOs and solved their problems. When I did more of this, my friends and I realized that it was better for us to start our own initiative and help people, ”says Umesh Harsha, one of the founders of the NGO.
Since its inception in 2019, the NGO has donated more than 1 lakh meal, donated more than 1,500 grocery accessories during the closing, paid colleagues and school fees to many underprivileged students, which enabled hundreds of blood donations, in addition to skills development and capacity building. activities in and around Hyderabad.
‘There was a huge need for food during the lockdown and we raised money from our circle of friends and donated more than 1,500 grocery donors, and each kit maintained a small family for a month. We also mobilized funds to donate important medical equipment, such as nebulizers, that were needed for respiratory disorders during the pandemic, ”shares Umesh. Later, they added education by holding teaching sessions in underprivileged areas.
‘The pandemic has drastically affected education in disadvantaged areas. To address this issue as much as possible through our team and our volunteers, we hold weekly educational sessions in slums across the city. Our volunteers provide basic curricula, in addition to providing experts in martial arts, arts, etc. to underprivileged children, ”adds Umesh.
They also established a primary education center in a remote village in Khammam, thus providing employment to a young person, and also giving the local children in the area access to education. According to Umesh, the plan to establish a school will soon become a reality.
