Kanyakumari, Apr 2 (UNI) Continuing his broadside against the
Opposition DMK and the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
today said the opposition has reduced itself to a dynasty club.
Addressing an election rally here, he said while the focus of the
BJP-led NDA was development, the opposition has reduced itself
to a dynasty club.
'All they (the Opposition) want is to secure the position of their
own children and grandchildren', he said.
Noting that India was not created by a few families, but by
the sweat of its citizens, Mr Modi said 'the Opposition is
not bothered about your sons and daughter'.
Pointing out that the Congress had dismissed both the DMK
and the AIADMK governments in Tamil Nadu by imposing
Article 356 of the Constitution, the Prime Minister said 'having
Congress in any coalition is like having a high-handed ally
who does not understand local sensibilities".
"The Opposition loves calling people anti-democratic. But,
they should see the nearest mirror. Congress has imposed
Article 356 several times. Both DMK and AIADMK governments
have been dismissed by Congress." he added.
Stating that today the mood of the nation was clearly against
politics of nepotism, Mr Modi said the NDA comes with a strong
track record of pro-people, pro-active good governance.
'We have fixed long pending issues and found out of the box
solutions to pressing problems', he added.
Pointing out that the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi railway line
was damaged in 1964 cyclone, he said in more than 50 years,
no one thought of repairing it.
'It was our government that started work on creating a new
railway line', he said, adding, the Pamban railway bridge, that
connects Pamban and the Rameswaram, was also ignored
by previous governments.
'We focused on reconstructing it', he added.
Observing that in this year's budget, the Centre has given
emphasis on the Mumbai-Kanyakumari economic corridor,
the Prime Minister said Rs one lakh crore would be spent
on upgrading road and connectivity related infrastructure in
Tamil Nadu.
Pointing out that the government's model for coastal
development has three pillars, Mr Modi said it included
increasing opportunity through port-led development and
modern infrastructure, increase in capacities in current
ports, construction of new ports which would generate
more jobs for locals.
'We are also increasing incomes through a major push to
the blue economy', he said, adding, this included setting
up of new fishing harbours and fish landing centres are
coming up.
A fishing harbour will come up in Chennai. Fishermen are
getting better boats, navigation materials and credit.
Seaweed cultivation is also being encouraged, he said.
Pointing out that his government ensured the release of
fishermen from Sri Lanka a few days back, he said they
included 40 fishermen and four boats from Tamil Nadu.
'Currently, no Indian fishermen are in Sri Lankan
custody', he added.
He said the government was increasing connectivity through
better roads and inland waterways.
Stating that connectivity from ports was an obstacle to
economic growth for fishermen, Mr MOdi said the NDA
regime was solving this problem by connecting our ports
to the hinterlands and expanding waterway networks to
boost ease of living.
