BICHOLIM: Kundan Falari will be the next chairperson of the Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) and Tanuja Gaonkar will be the deputy.
The election is scheduled for Thursday. As there is only one nomination for each post, both will be elected unopposed. Wednesday was the last day to file nominations for the two posts.
Falari filed his nomination on Tuesday. His name was finalised by the BJP functionaries, this despite former chairperson Rajaram Goankar showing an interest in another term.
The official announcement for both posts will be made on Thursday at the new BMC market complex building hall, sources said.
BJP has the strength of nine councillors in the 14 member BMC. Its strength reached 10 seats after the elected councillor from ward no. 5, Nilesh Tople, who won as an independent candidate, extended support to BJP.
Of the remaining four councillors, three are from the Naresh Sawal’s ‘Together for Bicholim’ panel, while one is from the ‘Bicholim Vision’ panel of the Shetye brothers.
