Punjab CM warns of stricter curbs, revokes one-hour silence order

Chandigarh, March 31

CM Capt Amarinder Singh today warned of stricter restrictions if the situation did not improve next week.

The situation will be reviewed again on April 8 and the decision on further curbs may be taken if the Covid spread continues unchecked, the CM said during a virtual review meeting with top health, administrative and police officials. Taking note of inconvenience to commuters, the CM also ordered doing away with the one-hour silence on Saturdays. Underlining the need for aggressive vaccination, he directed officials to reach out to people in the worst-affected districts and motivate them to get vaccinated. He also directed stricter enforcement of restrictions in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mohali and Amritsar. Dr KK Talwar, head, state Covid expert panel, said more enforcement of restrictions was needed in urban areas. — TNS
