CHENNAI: A 25-year-old drunk man stabbed his pregnant wife to death at Vyasarpadi in Chennai in early hours on Thursday.
Police arrested the accused, identified as Ravi alias 'Aruppu' Ravi of Ezhil Nagar in Kodungaiyur. He was a daily wage earner. Police said Ravi was a history-sheeter with some assault cases pending against him.
Ravi married Vijayalakshmi of Pulianthope a few years ago. The couple has an 11-month-old son.
Recently, Vijayalakshmi went to her parents’ home in Pulianthope after a quarrel with Ravi.

He threatened Vijayalakshmi asking her return to his home. She agreed to return. While they were walking back home around 2am, the couple picked up an argument. Ravi abused his wife suspecting her fidelity.
He took out a liquor bottle, broke it and stabbed Vijayalakshmi on her neck. Vijayalakshmi died on the spot. Ravi escaped with the child.
On information, the Vyasarpadi police rushed to the spot and sent Vijayalakshmi's body for postmortem. The police registered a case and nabbed Ravi. He was remanded in judicial custody.
