NEW DELHI:
Maharashtra on Thursday reported as many as 43,183 new
Covid-19 cases, its highest single-day rise in infection tally since the
pandemic began.
With this, the state's cumulative caseload mounted to 28,56,163. The state also recorded 249
Covid deaths taking the toll in Maharashtra to 54,898.
According to the state health bulletin, as many as 32,641 eople recovered in the state from the disease in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries in Maharashtra goes to 24,33,368 so far. However, the active cases of Covid-19 stand at 3,66,533.
Meanwhile, the state capital Mumbai reported 8,646 new cases, its highest daily rise till now.
Earlier this week, the Maharashtra government had said a “complete” shutdown is not in the offing, although some restrictions will have to be imposed to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection.
With Covid-19 cases surging in the state, the Maharashtra government has imposed night "curfew" in entire state. The state government has prohibited gatherings of more than five people in public places from 8pm to 7am across the state and put public places like gardens, beaches and seafronts out of bounds between 8pm to 7 am.
All cinema halls, malls, restaurants and auditoriums will also remain shut from 8pm to 7am.
