Aurangabad, Apr 1 (UNI) Eight districts of Maharashtra's Marathwada region recorded the highest single-day surge in COVID-19 cases after 5,009 people were tested positive, health authorities here told media on Thursday.
As many as 76 patients also succumbed to the disease during the same time.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Nanded was the worst affected, which recorded the highest number of positive cases ie 1,079 cases and 24 deaths, followed by Aurangabad with 1,542 new cases and 19 deaths, Beed had 325 cases and nine deaths, Jalna registered 532 new cases and 7 deaths, Hingoli had 174 cases and 6 deaths, Latur had 606 cases and 5 deaths, Parbhani had 498 cases and 4 deaths and Osmanabad 253 cases and two deaths.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours total of 39,544 fresh cases of COVID-19 were registered across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 28,12,980.
The state also registered 227 more deaths, taking the death toll to 54,644.
Meanwhile, a total of 23,600 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 24,07,727 across the state.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 85.34 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.94 per cent.
At present there are 3,56,243 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.
