Puducherry, Apr 1 (UNI) N R Congress has promised to press the Centre and get full statehood status for Puducherry in its Manifesto, which will only be a permanent solution for the financial crisis in the Union Territory.
Releasing the manifesto for the April 6 Assembly election in an open van, while undertaking poll campaign in the Raj Bhawan constituency here on Wednesday night, NR Congress President and former Chief Minister N Rangaswamy also promised to press the Centre to waive the Rs.8863 crore legacy loan with interest.
He also promised to hold local body elections in the UT and fill up the 9400 vacant government posts in another one year.
Reduction of petrol and diesel prices, enhancement of age ceiling for government jobs to 40, setting up of Textile Park in Puducherry and industrial units, setting up of a state information commission, enhancement of MLAs area development fund to Rs 3 crore, 10 percent reservation for government school students in Medical and engineering courses, setting up of a separate Board of Education for Puducherry, obtaining 50 percent reservation in medical seats in private medical colleges as government quota, provision of tablets to 10th standard students and Laptop to plus one and plus two students, setting up of a state university, medical insurance up to Rs.5 lakh for all families, re-opening of co-operative institutions such as PAPSCO and PASIC, provision of 4 percent reservation for differently abled people in employment and among others were the promises mentioned in the Manifesto.
