GUWAHATI, March 31: In a big development ahead of the state assembly polls, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate from Tamulpur constituency, Rangja Khungur alias Ramdas Basumatary, has allegedly gone ‘traceless’ on Wednesday. Sources close to him said that he was likely to quit the party. Tamulpur constituency in Baksa district was slated to go to polls in the third phase of state polls on April 6.
Senior BPF leader Ganesh Kochari said, “We have heard that Ramdas Basumatary is likely to join the BJP- United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) coalition. It is a major conspiracy against BPF by the opposition.” However, Basumatary was unavailable for any comment.
In the 2016 assembly elections, BPF candidate Emmanuel Musahary won this constituency. However, Musahary had joined the BJP before the BTC election in November last year. Apart from Basumatary, key candidates contesting in the 2021 assembly elections from Tamulpur constituency are: Leho Ram Boro of UPPL and Raijor Dal candidate Nagen Chandra Das.
