SIVASAGAR, March 31: Moran mourned the death of senior sports scribe Purbajyoti Chutia in mysterious circumstances in Guwahati on March 28.
On Tuesday, hundreds of residents of the town bade tearful adieu to the deceased journalist when his body was carried to his native village Dumor Dalang near Moran. Moran Press Club, Moranhat Press Club, Alpine Boys Club, AASU, AJYCP, Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Moran Town Club and a dozen other organisations paid tributes to the reporter before his last rites were performed by his daughter Riya Chutia yesterday.
Journalists Sovit Kr Setri, Jagunnath Puri , Prof( Dr) Anil Saikia and many others spoke on Purbajyoti Chutia’s works and achievements in a condolence meeting held in his house.
The meeting in a resolution, urged upon the government to expedite the investigation into his death and penalise the culprits involved if it turns out to be murder.
