E S’bhum fields officials at public places to check rising Covid graph

Jamshedpur: With fresh cases of Covid-19 rising in East Singhbhum, the administration has redeployed 25 incident commanders (ICs) in nine blocks to implement the revised guidelines effectively. Till Tuesday, the district had 264 active Covid cases.
Meanwhile, a team led by ADM (law and order) Nand Kishore Lal visited the government-run quarantine centre at Professional College in Sidhgora and asked the officials to re-activate the centre in a week.
From Thursday, the ICs along with health officials and local police stations will ensure people visiting public places are wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. In an order, deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar said, “People found violating Covid guidelines will be punished under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act and Section 188 of the IPC.”
The ICs will regularly inspect markets, malls, railway stations, bus terminals and other public places to see that the norms are being followed in toto. They will also work in coordination with the surveillance teams to keep a track of infected persons under home quarantine. Identification of new cases and getting them tested at the earliest will also be a part of their job from Thursday.
Sources in the health department said, although cases are being recorded from all parts of the district, focus is on the urban areas consisting of three urban municipal bodies — Jamshedpur, Mango and Jugsalai. In a survey, it was found Kadma, Mango, Sakchi and Sonari areas have reported the maximum number of cases in the last one week.
On, Wednesday, a team conducted Covid tests on people found not wearing masks in Sakchi market area. Shopkeepers were asked to ensure people visiting their shops wear masks and warned of action if customers are found flouting the norms.
Till Tuesday, the district recorded a total of 19,074 positive cases of which 357 have died while 18,453 have recovered.
