Kothagudem: Great tragedy averted as police destroy IEDs planted by Maoists

Kothagudem: A possible danger to police personnel was averted when an IED planted in the forests of Cherla was tracked down and destroyed on Thursday.

Police have arrested a member of the militia’s mayor, found an improvised explosive device (IED), detonator and a cord wire from him at Rallagudem in Chela Mandal in the district, in addition to destroying an IED.

The explosive was found during a police team consisting of Bhadrachalam ASP, G Vineeth and CRPF DSP, Sudhir Mandal. The team noticed some people moving suspiciously in the forests of Rallagudem and Battigudem.

When the police saw the police, they tried to run away. However, police managed to arrest a person working as a militia member, M Rajanna from Rallapuram, in Cherla area. During the interrogation, he admitted that the secretary of the Maoist Cherla area committee, Aruna, had ordered about 20 militia members led by the Mao military commander of the Cherla area, Balu, to plant two IEDs in the forests that were on the police personnel.

Cherla CI, B Ashok, who participated in the cam operations with SI Raju Varma and staff, said a case against Rajanna was discussed at the Cherla police station and launched an investigation into the case.
