Vaccine name mix-up on certificates, recipients wary of second dose

Gurgaon: More than two months after the Covid-19 vaccination drive began, Co-WIN portal glitches remain a major concern. While several recipients have faced delays in getting vaccine certificates, many others have received the document with the wrong vaccine name mentioned.
In Palwal, for instance, a 70-year-old recipient received a certificate that said he had been successfully vaccinated with Covishield. The text message he had received on the day of vaccination had, however, mentioned it was Covaxin. His family is now unsure if he should get his second dose, fearing mixing of vaccines could lead to complications.
Rohit Chaudhary, the recipient’s son, said his parents got their first jabs at Palwal Civil Hospital on March 12. “While my mother’s certificate clearly mentions that she was given Covaxin, the vaccine name on my father’s certificate is wrong. He was not given Covishield. Now, I’m worried if they should get their second doses or not. We cannot go for it unless there’s clarity about the first jabs,” said Chaudhary.
Tarun Jain, a resident of Sector 81 in Gurgaon, said he took his 78-year-old mother to Sunrise Hospital in Sector 10 on March 4. “After inoculation, I downloaded the certificate from Aarogya Setu app. The names of the vaccine as well as session sites were wrongly mentioned as Covaxin and west Delhi. This is a big concern. How can anyone go for the second dose without knowing what the first one was?” he said.
Health department officials said the portal may have some data entry issues. “We have received such complaints in the past as well. There were some glitches and we have already fixed them. People can download their certificates from the portal and verify. In case they face an issue, they can contact the health department,” said Gurgaon chief medical officer Virender Yadav.
