New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) Congress on Thursday said that actor Rajinikanth should have got Dadasaheb Phalke award much earlier and criticised the BJP over the timing of the prestigious award was announced, less than a week before Tamil Nadu elections.
Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Rajiv Shukla said, 'It is a good move to give this award to a great artist like Rajinikanth.
However, he attacked the BJP, saying, 'BJP puts vote-angles in everything and finds politics in everything. The BJP should not do every work according to vote, but a great actor like Rajinikanth should have already been given such a huge honor. "
He said that 'Rajinikanth ji is a very big actor. Everyone respects him. He is a very big and successful artist. He should be given all the honors like Padma Shri, Padmabhushan, but the government should desist from politicising everything and doing things keeping election in mind.'
The Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu is slated to be held on April 6.
