SCR achieved 750 km of track electrification in FY 2021

Secunderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has electrified about 750 km of railway, including 612 km in new sections, 64 km of double lines and 69 km of third lines, in FY 2020-21, an SCR official said on Thursday.

According to the official, the performance is particularly striking because the works were carried in the middle of the areas Covid-19 pandemic.

The electrification work continued until the last week of the financial year with the projects being carried out for the 182 km railway line in the three states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra under the SCR zone.

In Telangana, the divisions that have been electrified are Umdanagar-Falaknama and Vikarabad-Kohir. Similarly, the Tenali-Repalle and Kavali-Ulawapadu (third line) divisions were electrified in Andhra Pradesh, while the Akola-Lohad division was electrified in Maharashtra.

In addition to saving fuel costs and providing an environmentally friendly way to power trains, the addition of the electrified parts to the rail network will also help provide seamless movements of trains by avoiding change in traction. It will also reduce the detention of passenger and freight trains, leading to a better average speed of the trains.
