Srinagar, Apr 1 (UNI) Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in four separate places in Kashmir valley.
A police spokesperson said a checkpoint was established at Akura bridge Mattan in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. “Police intercepted three people at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 400 gms of cannabis powder and 4.3 kgs of bung from them,” he said.
He said the accused -- identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat, Jehangir Yousuf Wani and Nisar Ahmad Bhat – were immediately taken into custody. “Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Mattan and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
He said on a tip-off, police arrested a drug peddler Jan Mohammad Thoker, resident of Rooh Anantnag. “As many as 466 intoxicating capsules Trap Spas and Mefar Pd (Tramadol) were recovered from him” he said.
He said two checkpoints were established at Naina Litter and Batpora Litter in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. “At these checking points, police teams intercepted two suspicious persons, identified as Shabir Ahmad Bhat and Ghulam Nabi Matoo,” he said.
He said during checking, officers recovered 300 grams of Charas and 70 grams Brown sugar (Heroine) from their possession. “Both the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” he said.
“Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Litter and further investigation has been initiated,” he said.
He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
