Tamil Nadu assembly election: AIADMK men booked over bribery

MADURAI: The Madurai police on Wednesday booked a case against an AIADMK MLA and the party’s candidate for Sholavandan constituency K Manickam on the charges of distributing cash to voters.
M H Abdul Rahman, an official attached to the static surveillance team, lodged a complaint with the Sholavandan police after producing a video showing the MLA’s man distributing cash to women, who turned up to take aarti in Mudaliarkottai village on Wednesday.
Manickam was booked under the IPS section 171 E – punishment for bribery.
A police source said that the party cadre distributed Rs 200 notes to each of the women, who took aarti.
In another incident, Oomachikulam police registered a case under the same section against AIADMK functionaries for distributing dhoti and sari to lure voters.
The police registered the case based on a complaint from M Poomaye, an official attached to a flying squad team. The party’s Oomachikulam branch functionaries C Subbaiah and C Ravi were booked. Police said that a detailed inquiry was underway.
