GUWAHATI: Rolling out BJP's campaign for the third phase of polling in Assam with a rally in the hub of Bengali-speaking Muslims, Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said his party would reclaim all the land grabbed by illegal immigrants and slam the door shut on them for good.
"Hume aur paanch saal de dijiye, aadmi toh kya, parinde bhi ghus nahi sakenge (give us another five years – forget humans, we will ensure even birds cannot enter illegally)," he declared.
Shah's statement was addressed directly to AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, who has been the focus of BJP's campaign for a second term in office. "Kaan khol kar sunlom Ajmal, Assam ko ghuspetiyo ke adda phir se nahin banne denge (Listen clearly, Ajmal, we won't allow Assam to become the playground of infiltrators again)," he said in lower Assam's Bijni, around 150km from Guwahati.
Responding to Ajmal’s claim on Tuesday that he possesses the "taala and chabi (lock and key)" to the next government, the Union home minister said, "Taala aur chabi Assam ke janta ke haath mein hain (the people of Assam hold the lock and key)."
Shah continued in the same vein at his second rally of the day in Sonapur near Guwahati.
