Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man was killed and his friend was injured when the car they were traveling in crashed into the median of the road near the HITEX arch at Madhapur on Friday.
The victim was identified as Vishwa Tej, 26, of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, while his injured friend was identified as M Indrajith Varma. Both were close friends and students of a private college here. Varma, who was sitting next to the deceased, fled the police or an ambulance without intimidation, although his friend was seriously injured.
According to police, they arrived from Jubilee Hills to Madhapur in a car driven by Tej, who was allegedly in a deteriorating condition. When they got close to the HITEX arch, the car, which was driving fast, allegedly got out of control and crashed into the median of the road.
Cyberabad police arrested Indrajith Varma on Thursday on charges of inciting Teja to drive while intoxicated. He was booked for culpable homicide which did not amount to murder. A case was discussed and thereafter Varma was charged and brought before the court and detained in judicial custody.
According to police, both drank alcohol together and Teja drove the car with Varma so he could drive while under the influence of alcohol. This amounted to culpable homicide which did not amount to murder.
The traffic police in Cyberabad have appealed to the public to take a closer look and act responsibly while driving on public roads in the light of road safety. Residents are urged not to encourage drunk driving at all.
