Kolkata, Apr 1 (UNI) Amid elaborate security arrangements, the second phase of polling in West Bengal, including high voltage Nandigram constituency in Purba Midnapore district, recorded a high voter turnout of more than 60 per cent till 1400 hours.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Derek O Brien writes to EC alleging booth capture by BJP workers in Nandigram Assembly Constituency.
"Huge mob of BJP workers have entered booth no.s 6,7,49,27,162,21,26,13,262,256,163,20. BJP workers attempting to take control of EVM & rigging the booth," he wrore to EC.
Mr O’ Brien tweeted, “BJP and their mind games! Won’t work. Trinamool booth agents ROCK SOLID in 354 booths in #Nandigram. We have registered complaints about 10 specific booths. All attempts by CRPF to influence/intimidate voters not working. People determined to have @MamataOfficial as their MLA
TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra alleged that over 150 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are malfunctioning since the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections began on Thursday.
"Wish @ECISVEEP had put half as much effort into ensuring no EVM glitches as it did into transferring police officials," Ms Moitra tweeted.
A woman polling agent of BJP at booth number 173 in Keshpur was beaten up allegedly by TMC workers. And, local BJP leader Tanmay Ghosh’s car was vandalised in the Keshpur assembly constituency.
"Free and fair polls not being conducted here as TMC causing violence. Central forces inactive," says BJP candidate from Keshpur assembly seat.
Meanwhile, the vehicle of media personnel attacked near booth number 170 in Kamalpur, Nandigram.
"These are work of Pakistanis, 'Jay Bangla' is a slogan from Bangladesh. There are voters from a particular community at that booth who are doing this," says BJP’s Nandigram candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
