PANAJI: The V M Salgaocar Trust will be funding a chair to promote wildlife studies at Goa University, besides offering a post-doctoral fellowship in the subject.
The V M Salgaocar Chair in Wildlife Studies will be established under the visiting research professor programme of GU and will focus on research in wildlife, flora and fauna, conservation and habitat management.
Credit and non-credit courses will be offered to the university’s students to encourage them to take up work in the discipline.
An MoU has been signed by the V M Salgaocar Trust and Goa University, as per which the trust will fund the chair up to an amount of Rs 10 lakh per annum, besides paying the costs involved in implementing the post-doctoral research fellowship.
The understanding will be in force for an initial period of three years, which will be extendable.
Research, teaching, training and dissemination of knowledge related to wildlife, conservation and habitat management will be taken up under the MoU.
“V M S Trust will meet the actual expenses including honorarium, travel costs, boarding, lodging etc incurred by the university for the chair and post-doctoral fellowship,” the MoU states.
GU has said that V M Salgaocar Trust will be entitled to indicate to the varsity its preferred choices of research areas in wildlife studies, conservation and habitat management. A nominee of the trust will be present when Goa University’s committee meets to select a visiting professor for the chair and make selections for the post-doctoral fellowship.
Goa University and the trust will carry out a joint evaluation at the end of every academic year of the programmes implemented under the MoU.
