THANE: The
Thane municipal corporation (TMC) has scheduled a special Covid
vaccination session for inmates of old age homes in the city.
As many as 125 senior citizens, including a few mentally-challenged, have already been vaccinated till now, said municipal officials, adding that a few more are scheduled to get the jab soon.
A special programme was scheduled at Saket Covid hospital the last weekend.
“We have been scheduling vaccinations for seniors but this segment seems to be neglected in the immunization rush. It is unlikely for the majority of the charitable trusts to ensure logistics support for them so we decided to step in and ensure they were covered,” said deputy municipal commissioner Vishwanath Kelkar, in-charge of Covid hospital.
Kelkar told TOI that they had arranged buses for transporting the seniors to and from their old age homes at the corporation expense.
“The programme will be arranged over the next few days. We have already contacted few old age homes and are in the process of reaching out to others operating in the vicinity of Thane city,” informed an official.
