Dharmendra Pradhan donates a year's salary for Utkal University development

BHUBANESWAR: Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan has donated his one year's salary towards the development of Utkal University. He handed over the amount to Odisha governor and Chancellor of state universities Ganeshi Lal.
Governor congratulated Pradhan for his gesture of benevolence towards his alma mater. Pradhan has completed his post-graduation in anthropology from the university. While attending the mega alumni meet organised to mark the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the university here on November 24, 2019, the Union minister had announced this.
Pradhan along with higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, food supplies and consumer welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain, former chief secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, former ministers Prafulla Ghadei and Panchanan Kanungo, former state congress president Prasad Harichandan and other noted alumni had advocated for creating a corpus fund for development of Utkal University.
The two leaders, Pradhan and Sahoo, were batch mates of 1990 of the university. The Union minister had announced in the alumni meet that the fund can be used for research works and student exchange programmes. Besides, the fund can be used for improving basic facilities of the university including renovation of hostels, toilets and auditorium.
He had also appealed to all alumni to contribute to the development of the university. Pradhan had said, “If Arun babu generates Rs 100 crore by persuading chief minister Naveen babu, I will also try to arrange Rs 101 crore for the university. We will make our alma mater a world class institution by unitedly working for it.”
