AMBALA: The Ambala police on Tuesday arrested two persons, including a woman, for allegedly blackmailing families of seven men, allegedly accused of a child’s sexual assault. They also pressured extortion of Rs 12 lakh.
Both the persons were produced in the Ambala district court on Wednesday, which sent them in judicial custody.
According to information, the accused woman had lodged a complaint against seven men under sections 294, 328, 506 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3, 4, 7, and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at the Ambala Women police station on September 3, 2016.
Father of one of the accused persons reported to the cops on Tuesday that the woman had extorted Rs 12 lakh from him and families of others and now she was demanding Rs 10 lakh more.
“The woman demanded Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of implicating my two sons and others in false case. Later, the woman refused of any rape during her statement in the court. The hearing continued and she demanded Rs 10 lakh more,” he said.
Ambala SP Hamid Akhtar formed a team and caught the two accused, including the woman, red-handed with Rs 1 lakh cash.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Ambala City police station.
