The 8th gen iPad went on sale on 18 September 2020 and shares a 10.2in screen with its 7th gen predecessor, but it's a whole different story under the hood.
Powered with a new A12 Bionic processor, the new iPad 2020 promises 40% better CPU performance, stronger graphics, and is the first iPad to integrate Neural Engine – Apple's AI and machine learning software that allows better image processing and AR (augmented reality) support, along with a smoother Siri experience.
To top it all off, the iPad 8 is also cheaper than 2019's model – and you can get it even cheaper from certain retailers.

How much does the iPad (2020) cost?

The iPad 2020 is £20 cheaper than the 2019 model which started at £349 – which means there's no reason to pay full price for the 7th gen iPad, which is still available to buy widely, though now at slightly reduced prices.
Our advice remains clear though: if you're choosing between the 7th generation and the 8th, go for the 8th. You'll get a stronger processor and much better value.

Best April 2021 deals on iPad 2020 (8th gen)
Good new: iPad (8th gen) stock has returned to most retailers after months of low to zero inventory. There's even a £10 discount from AO and John Lewis on 128GB iPad in space grey, and £10 off from Costco too (you'll need a membership to shop).
Apple has the iPad 2020 in stock. Shipping is free, though delivery will take 3-4 weeks. If you want it before then, you'll have to go to Currys PC World where it's available for in-store collection or free next-day delivery with code FREENEXTDAYDELIVERY. Amazon's supplies are limited, but it does have £33.57 off the 128GB option with cellular.
The iPad 2020 is also available from Laptops Direct with next-day delivery, but without any discounts.

Where to get refurbished iPad deals
You might also be able to save on an iPad if you buy refurbished. Apple's Certified Refurbished Store is the first place to check for the best quality renewed Apple devices. These are devices that have been thoroughly tested and repaired, and guaranteed to work and look just like new by Apple itself. Right now, the Refurbished Store doesn't have the iPad 8 in stock, so you might have to turn to a third-party reseller.

Get a trade-in discount on iPad 2020 (8th gen)
Don't forget, you can also get money off the new iPad (2020) if you trade in your old iPad. Apple offers up to £410/US$525 when you trade in an old iPad Pro. Unfortunately, Apple won't offer trade-in discounts on non-Apple tablets.

The new iPad qualifies for an Educational Discount, so you can pick it up for even less. The Apple Education pricing applies to university students, parents of university students, and teachers or staff of all levels. The discount knocks up to £80/US$100 off a new iPad.
