Makkah Masjid: Exterior wall, minaret suffers damage due to construction activities

Hyderabad: The apathy shown by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) regarding the historical security of Makkah Masjid is causing anger and despair among the Muslims.

The ASI, which could not ensure the repair and refurbishment of the mosque in time, turned over the illegal construction activities bordering the wall of the mosque.

First, the ceiling and walls of the mosque suffered damage due to the fact that the repairs had not been completed for three years.

Now there are private construction activities bordering the outside wall of the mosque to change the status quo, which worries local Muslims and worshipers.

These illegal construction activities continue despite the matter being brought to the attention of the Waqf council and the mosque officials.

The local Muslims accuse the ASI of having no interest in protecting the historic mosque. As the responsibility for the maintenance of Makkah Masjid is under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the officials of the Waqf Council cannot stop the illegal construction activities.

It should be noted that there have been illegal construction activities on the wall of Panch Mohallla next to the wall for many days. The construction activity damaged small minarets and wall artwork.

According to the ASI rules, no construction, excavation or excavation activities are allowed around the historical sites. But due to political influence, officials remain silent.

The locals made a representation to the chairman of the Waqf council, Mohammed Salim, who gave the assurance that he would deal with the matter with the ASI and the department of minority affairs.

The worshipers urged Prime Minister Mohammed Mehmood Ali to protect the historic mosque.
