27 areas sealed in Gurgaon, 50% beds kept for Covid

Gurgaon: The district administration on Wednesday increased the number of containment zones from 21 to 27. The last containment order had been issued on February 25.
Badshapur and Chanderlok have the highest number of containment zones, at nine and six, respectively. Areas in the new sectors have also been sealed. The new containment zones include floors in Raheja Navodya and Park View Sanskruti in Sector 92; and houses 580 to 1950 in Sushant Lok-1 block C and 1301 to 1310 near Galleria Market in DLF-4.
The district magistrate also ordered all hospitals to reserve at least 50% of their beds, including ICU and ventilators, for Covid-19 patients.
“Considering the spike in Covid-19 cases in the city, the health department had proposed increasing dedicated Covid beds from 35% to 50%. If needed, we can increase this further. Our strategy is to make micro-containment zones and increase bed capacity to minimise deaths and infections,” said Gurgaon chief medical officer Virender Yadav.
The highest number of containment zones in the city was reported on November 10 when the district administration had sealed 141 areas. On that day, the number of active cases was 5,567. On Wednesday, the active caseload stood at 1,943.
