Covid-19: 756 new cases reported and 78 deaths

South Africa recorded 756 new Covid-19 infections by Tuesday, 30 March and 78 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the confirmed death toll to 52 788.

According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Tuesday, the country recorded a total of 1 546 735 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke protocol is 251 707.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded the most active cases with 5 470, followed by the Western Cape's 5 046 and the Northern Cape with 2 547.

The recovery rate is 95% and 1 473 588 recoveries have been recorded.

To date, 9 844 835 tests have been completed, with 24 842 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, Mkhize said.

One death was recorded in the Eastern Cape, seven in the Free State, 45 in Gauteng, nine in KwaZulu-Natal, four in Mpumalanga, two in the Northern Cape and three in the Western Cape.

"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
