South African govt invests ZAR 19 mln in 2 nanosatellites for maritime purposes

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) has invested ZAR 18.9 million in developing two nanosatellites aimed at increasing maritime awareness in South Africa, reports BusinessTech. The department said the funding was channelled through the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), an entity of the DSI, to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). It said the university has developed cutting-edge nanosatellites and cube satellites (CubeSats) over the years, demonstrating advanced technological capabilities in the country's space industry.
