The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
The Falcon and The Winter Solider episode 2 shows why the US government chose John Walker to be the new Captain America. Although he has a lot of experience to take over the mantle, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are disappointed with Walker being the new Cap. This is what unites Wilson and Barnes and they go on a mission to track down the activities of the Flag Smashers. After fighting the Flag Smashers in a thrilling action sequence, Wilson, Barnes, Walker, and Lemar Hoskins find out the anarchist group is filled with super-soldiers. The identity of the Flag Smashers leader, Karli Morgenthau, is uncovered by the US government.
Barnes introduces Wilson to Isiah Bradley, one of the first super-soldiers who worked on dangerous missions for the US government in the past and was imprisoned by them. The government and HYDRA carried out several inhumane experiments on Isiah and he was even sent to kill Bucky. The episode doesn’t go much deeper into Isiah’s story, but it offers a glimpse into what the government has been hiding from the world.
After this, Barnes gets arrested for missing his court-mandated therapy session. But, he gets released quickly with Walker’s help. Walker helps with Barnes’ release to forge a working relationship with Wilson and Barnes. However, that doesn’t go according to the plan as Wilson and Barnes disagree to work with them, leading to a rivalry with Walker and Hoskins. Barnes and Wilson decide to visit Baron Zemo to gather information about HYDRA’s involvement with the Flag Smashers.
The Flag Smashers get attacked by a group sent by a mysterious person called the Power Broker. One of the members of the Flag Smashers sacrifices himself to allow rest of the group to escape.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 3 Theories
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 2 has many unanswered questions about various characters. Here’s the breakdown of lingering questions and how they could be resolved:
Why was Isiah imprisoned?
Isiah Bradley told Barnes and Wilson that he was in prison for several years, but didn’t go much in detail about his crime. In the comics, Isiah went rogue and shut down super-serum experimentation facilities in Nazi Germany. He was captured by the Nazis and later rescued by the Allies after winning the World War 2. Then, Isiah was imprisoned to hide the inhumane experiments carried out on him by the government.
Who is the Power Broker?
The identity of Power Broker might be the biggest mystery in The Falcon and Winter Soldier. Since the Power Broker is connected to the Flag Smashers, it could explain how they got super-human abilities. As the character has never been shown on screen yet, comic books offer some details about him. In the comics, the Power Broker is a businessman who gives superpowers to ordinary human beings for a hefty price. He does this through dangerous experiments that kill many of his clients and those who manage to survive are burdened with a massive debt. The Power Broker might have helped the Flag Smashers get their superpowers.
What is John Walker’s secret?
Although John Walker has a great resume to take over the role of Captain America, there seems to be something wrong with him. Walker’s powers aren’t exactly the same as Cap, but he is much stronger and faster than ordinary humans. Even after fighting with the super-soldiers of the Flag Smashers, he has no injuries. The series hasn’t explained how Walker gained these powers, suggesting that he could be a client of the Power Broker.
What are the Flag Smashers planning?
The Flag Smashers aim to unite the world without the limitations of nationalities. Many people have joined their cause and believe that the Flag Smashers leader, Karli Morgenthau, is the modern Robin Hood. So far, its unclear what the Flag Smashers are trying to achieve. The upcoming episodes will reveal more information about the Flag Smashers’ plan.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 2 teases many interesting storylines that will be explored in future episodes. We will get a much better look at Helmut Zemo and Sharon Carter and discover what role they will play in the series. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1, episode 3 debuts on April 2 on Disney Plus Hotstar Premium.
