Khaki took the colours of holi to children with no family

Nagpur: Despite a tough schedule due to Holi, Zonal DCP Lohit Matani found time to bring smiles on the faces of the inmates of the government shelter home at Patankar Chowk on Monday.
The officer also made the kids aware about the role of the police in rescuing and reuniting missing children with their families and reforming the lives of many juveniles who strayed into anti-social activities.
Matani, who was supervising the bandobast from 7am, decided to spend the lunch hour with the children. He visited the shelter home with colours and sweets to distribute them among the children who lead a life within the four walls of the government shelter home. Around 15 children below the age of 12 and another 10, between 12 and 18 years, interacted with Matani.
“I wanted to portray the image of the police in a different light. A rescuer of those missing, a reformer of the ones who are into crime and also a motivator to turn them into responsible citizens,’ said Matani.
“When the children opened the sweet boxes with excitement and joy in their eyes, it made me teary. I tried to tell them that the police across the country have become a part of the family of many children who lost their near and dear ones,” said the IPS officer who was accompanied by senior inspector Amol Deshmukh of Kapil Nagar police station.
Matani had visited an orphanage during Diwali last year to distribute sweets among the children. Matani’s wife, Manjeet Kaur, who runs an NGO, People’s Peace Foundation, also undertakes several humanitarian works by following in his footsteps. “In the context of Holi, I explained to the children how life too has different colours and the significance of adopting each of them in true spirit,” he said.
