Chippa United sign veteran midfielder Oupa Manyisa

PSL side Chippa United on Tuesday announced the signing of veteran midfielder Oupa Manyisa with the 32-year-old sealing a move to the Chilli Boys for the remainder of the season.

The Bafana Bafana international, who has made 32 international appearances signs as a free agent since his departure from newly-formed PSL side TTM in October 2020.

Manyisa is one of the most decorated players in the modern PSL era and has lifted the league title on five occasions. Three times during a three-year spell at Mamelodi Sundowns while on two occasions before that with Orlando Pirates in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 campaigns.

"I'm happy to be here," Manyisa said. "First of all I want to thank God, then also the Chippa United family, especially the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come and play here.

"I will do my best to help the guys achieve the goals that the chairman wants to achieve.

Manyisa added that he was close to getting back to his best after spending a lengthy time out of action since becoming a free agent.

"I'm pretty excited because it's been a long time for me being without football, but I'm gelling well with the team because I know most of the guys.

"I'm happy because they welcomed me with warm hearts and open arms so I'm pretty much happy.

Head coach Dan Malesela said he was excited to add the experienced Manyisa to his squad who he feels will bring valuable quality to the team.

"I am elated to have the player of Oupa's talent and experience joining us, where we he will an integral role in this team as we head to the last stretch of the season with the league and the Nedbank Cup.

"We do have a tough schedule with back-to-back fixtures and we are aiming at finishing strong in our remaining matches.

"With captain Andile Mbenyane also still recovering from his groin injury, Oupa will provide the experience that this team needs alongside the likes of Anthony Laffor, Freddy Nsambiyumva and Kurt Lentjies are able to provide."
