Kerala: Former MP apologises for over remarks on Rahul Gandhi

Idukki, Mar 30 (UNI) Following a huge outrage especially from the Congress party, former Lok Sabha MP Joyce George on Tuesday apologised for his remarks against Rahul Gandhi.

George had said 'women in Kerala should be wary of Rahul Gandhi'. He made this remark while campaigning for Kerala Electricity Minister M M Mani here on Monday.

George was Idukki Lok Sabha member of the Left in 2014, but lost to Dean Kuriakose of the Congress in 2019 LS polls.

In his speech, George said 'Rahul Gandhi is a bachelor and he goes only to interact with girls at college campuses. Rahul Gandhi is a problem maker, and hence women should be wary of him'.

There was a huge public outrage especially from the Congress leaders, who demanded that George should be arrested and CPI and CPI-M condemn the act of George.

Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said 'it should not have happened'.

Meanwhile, George said he wished to withdraw his statement and would like to tender an unconditional apology for his statement.
