Like Our Little DIY Home Gym? (PICS)

With the weather finally being nice, my mate and I decided to put together a little bench/squat rack and bolt a few other bits of kit in to place. It’s nothing much, but we can hit each body part with all the equipment we have now and today is the first time I’ve worked out properly since the gyms closed in January, feels good man.

Mirin creativity with the concrete block and pulley setup. I would do something to tie the stands together though so you don't risk them getting out of alignment when you go to re-rack. Even just a 2×4 ran from one stand to the other would help.

Also the bar placement for squats seems rather a pain, like you have to do a 1/4 squat just to get under the bar. I would either trim that front board down, or put blocks under the bar to raise it up some so you don't have to clear 6" of "j-hook" on the unrack.

Cheers bro, a few good pointers. It’s the first time we’ve made anything like this. It’s actually a little taller than it looks and it slots in quite nicely. You’re right in that the wood could be cut down a few inch so that the bar doesn’t have to be placed over the top as much.

It’s very sturdy, the buckets are solid so require effort to move, the wooden beams don’t rock at all and are fixed in place. Just requires you not to be daft throwing the bar on to it, instead just placing it on.

    Srsly mirin'.

Been getting into a bit of DIY gym stuff myself (pulley cable machine, nylon strap weight harness for weighted chins on low bar). Tryna figure out how to make a dip bar, tho don't want to go too permanent/expensive.

Cheers boys. Honestly it’s a lot more sturdy than it looks. We’ve been sensible racking with only low-moderate weight to begin with.

The pulleys we’ve made are great, took a little adjusting and then adding the wood piece to avoid damaging the wall. But they’re just as good as a machine and you can adjust the weight too. Regarding the dip bar, I think you either have to bite the bullet and get something permanent, unless you buy a stand-alone dip frame.

Yeah, I'm really surprised pulleys aren't more popular with home gymmers. Instantly get like 5 cable machines out of $10 of supplies + your regular weights.

    And yeah, maybe :/
